A photographer as we all know is a
person who encapsulates a scene, a moment or an emotion in the form of an image
in his camera, which can be viewed later. In today`s world, photography has
acquired a new status and is accepted practised and encouraged by many people.
It has turned into a fashion especially by the younger generation. Photographers generally are
professionals and free lancers.
The
Functions of a Photographer
Professional photographers usually
are employed in some newspaper agency or some magazine company or in event
planning company where he has to record a particular matrimonial ceremony. His
salary is mostly fixed and he thus works for certain people.
Whereas free lancers are those camera
people who may be some crime reporting journalists, or some amateur beginner or
a random individual who sells his clicked photographs to the respective people.
An amateur cameraman is also one who would get into a contract with a party in
lieu of a particular amount or a prize money on completion of certain task through
camera. Photographer is also categorized on the basis of his subject i.e. the
kind of photo he takes. For example he may take image of a landscape, portrait
etc. Another category comprises of the cameramen who take different genres of
photo such as wildlife photography, modelling or fashioned photography etc. Thus,
the class of each photographer varies on account of his field of interest.

As a photographer works his heart out
to get a beautiful picture, thus it is right to exercise a control over the use
of his photo by different people. Thus, he does so by copyrighting his work.
The images printed by these newspapers, magazines and other platforms are
purchased photo from the photographer or from the company he represents and he
thus gets a suitable amount for his work. He also enjoys the right to maintain
the limit to which his photograph should be used. In addition, he gets a
royalty charge from different companies.

Many photographer mostly free lancers
upload their clicked snaps on social networking sites and thus gain recognition
and popularity from all quarters. Many individuals have taken it as their bread
earner and they click photos on behalf of other people and get desired amount
in return.
In India, there are many legends,
which are famous photographers and
have got massive respect. The work done by them is absolutely commendable and
is set as an inspiration for the young generation who look upon their work with
dignity.
